I (@missyward) of Affiliate Summit moderated this week with panelists:

  • Lisa Picarille (@lisap), a consultant focusing on online marketing, social media and content creation
  • Karen White (@KarenWhite_LV), a Marketing Strategist focusing on Performance marketing initiatives

Ted Murphy(@tedmurphy), the Founder and CEO of Izea was our special guest this week.

The topics that were discussed today were:

  • Bloggers are adding more affiliate marketing to their blog monetization. Why now and what are the opportunities for big-time bloggers and the little guy?
  • The opportunities for bloggers and advertisers with SocialSpark and PayPerPost
  • Why Affiliate Managers should be concentrating on recruiting bloggers and how to go about doing so the right way.
  • The financial effect that affiliate marketing has had on affiliates’ lives and the gamble getting into the industry. (We were too long-winded on the other topics that we decided to table this for another time).
  • Lisa Picarille debriefs us on Lobby Day in Sacramento

Show Notes:

  • Missy checks her ego and the door and makes a new rule that the weekly special guest shall always pick the opening music.
  • How advertisers are measuring social media campaign successes
  • Why more bloggers are monetizing their blogs now via affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, etc. and why is Marshall Kirkpatrick still shaking his head at it?
  • How Advertisers, Affiliate Managers and OPM’s should approach bloggers — and how NOT to.
  • How a random product can create buzz via social media (ex: Xshot)
  • Calling all Minnesota Affiliate Marketers: Connie Berg needs your help to fight #advertisingtax in your home state

I'm listening to this one and there is a talk about the XShot and I think Missy said that getting the XShot in the hands of the right person made the difference. I was the one who put the XShot in Ted's hands. I'd been using the XShot since 2007 and it wasn't until Ted got his hands on one that things took off. I am so very happy for Michael (the inventor of the XShot) for the success that has come about from Ted's use of this product.

BTW: I'll have Xshots to give away at IZEAFest and ASE. That is how Ted got one last year at IZEAFest. So did 12 other people including John Chow. But who do you associate with the XShot, not me, not John Chow. You associate the XShot with Ted Murphy, why? Because he took it to the next level. He found so many creative ways to use the Xshot in his daily life. It was a good choice to give him one.

BTW 2: I am loving the Spew. Great podcast.

I had no idea it was you that gave Ted that XShot. It's my favorite example of a product that took on new legs once social media got it's hands on it.

I'm so glad that you like TheSpew. We've got Brian Clark from CopyBlogger coming on this week.
