Seven Common Pitfalls New Affiliates Should Avoid

by Missy Ward on May 19, 2009 · 12 comments

If you’re new to affiliate marketing, you’re probably already up to your ears in “new stuff” that you need to learn, which can be somewhat overwhelming.

On top of everything else, you also need to get your arms around things that you really should avoid, so that your efforts aren’t for naught.

I put together this video to help out with that. These are some affiliate pitfalls that I wish someone would have shared with me when I first started out. It would have saved me a lot of time, frustration and money.

It’s part of a series that my business partner Shawn and I are developing to assist new affiliate marketers with their business. Here is the first one that Shawn created, entitled “Making Money Online With Affiliate Programs.”

It’s our sincere hope that you find a golden nugget in these videos that will make your life a little easier.

If you’ve been in the business for a while and would like to offer up some other tips, please feel free to post a comment below. It’s good karma ;-)

MissyWard.com runs on the Thesis Theme Framework

If you’re an affiliate who doesn’t understand a lot of PHP, HTML, or CSS, Thesis will give you a ton of functionality without having to alter any code. For the advanced, Thesis has incredible customization possibilities via extensive hooks and filters. And with so many design options, you can use the template over and over and never have it look like the same site.

Those of you who are “in between,” like myself, can use the fantastic Thesis User’s Guide and world-class support forums to make more professional customizations than you ever thought possible. The theme is not only highly customizable, but it allows me to build sites with a much more targeted focus on monetization than ever before. You can find out more about Thesis below:

That\\'s awsome, Steph. If you can think of anything that you\\'d want to present to new affiliates that we don\\'t cover, I\\'d love to hear about it. I love doing these videos, and if it helps a couple of people, then even better.

Glad to see I'm not alone :) It's an ongoing battle for me. If you find something that helps you stay focused, definitely send that tip my way!

Yes, focus is my biggest bugbear. There's always a million things to do, especially when you are at home, and you're one click away from a bunch of other websites!
