I also think a lot of people are unclear about what is considered spam... so it's good that you included that. I believe the most important aspect of getting people on your list is to provide something that there is a demand for as well as of high quality. Here's a great tip, use video on all of your opt in/squeeze pages - this gets lots more attention and is a good way to build up trust fast.
